Villa Slow by Laura Alvarez Architecture

Villa Slow is a contemporary holiday rental retreat in Spain’s Cantabria community. It was designed by Laura Alvarez Architecture with its design typology based on the traditional construction of the ‘peasant cabin’ in the area.
Unlike the traditional cabins, Villa Slow has a contemporary twist and is placed on top of a little south-facing hill that grants its inhabitants with impressive views towards the valley and mountain.

Villa Slow by Laura Alvarez Architecture in Cantabria, Spain

“I grew up in the North of Spain not so far away from Villa Slow. I have really good memories of me and my family enjoying nature. This region of Spain has many of the things I always look for when I go on holidays: Mountains, sea, natural parks, hiking, quietness, culture and rich gastronomy. But I always felt I missed here a nice place to stay… a place where you can be warm when it is cold outside and be fully connected to the outside when the sun shines. So I thought: If I cannot find it, there will also be many people not able to find it too….Let’s design and build a beautiful place and share it with more people!… Being myself an architect, it was an opportunity I could just not let go…And this is how it all started.”
– Laura Alvarez

Villa Slow is designed and built with extreme mindfulness and care for detail. The house is very respectful with the environment. Its design is based on the traditional typology of a Pasiego House (Cabana Pasiega) but with a contemporary twist. The rough exterior stone walls and roofs contrast with the delicate interior wooden structure and details. Two big panoramic windows in the living room facing opposite directions create a beautiful scenography of mountains, clouds, and trees. The two rooms with their generous height are designed to allow different arrangements: just a couple, couple with children, friends, etc. Each room has its own bathroom fully equipped, barrier-free.

THE WATER

Villa Slow is situated in a very special natural area well known for its spring water formation. The water of Villa Slow comes from its own spring.

A PASSIVE HOME

Villa Slow pays extreme attention to sustainability. Villa Slow is a passive house. It is provided with a heat pump, under floor heating and high quality insulation and windows for a minimum heat loss. All electronic appliances are A+++ and all lightning based on LED technology. The high performance glass warms up the interior in the winter and the big wooden shutters protect the summer from heat gain. All materials used to build Villa Slow are reused from the old stone shed or come from the area of Cantabria.

Vitoria-Gasteiz Home by Patxi Cortazar Arquitecto

The Vitoria-Gasteiz Home is a contemporary private residence located in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, Spain. This luxurious dwelling was designed by Patxi Cortazar Arquitecto and it is characterized by a minimal exterior with a white facade with contrasting features.
Its monochrome interior gives it an air of peace and tranquility while also providing its residents with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Vitoria Gasteiz Home by Patxi Cortazar Arquitecto in Spain

Single-family home built essentially in the ground floor, leaving at the first floor only a little studio at the double height of the room and a guest room with bathroom.

The plot has a leaning slope towards the direction North South, so that the construction is located at the North of it, leaving as much space as possible in the South direction.

The project of the building obeys to a fragmented architecture, in a composition of several volumes, with flat or leaning roofs, depending on the direction and the spaces they cover.

The elevator, connected to the chimneys, formalizes the highest and slimmest volume for its functional necessities, which stands out by fitting around itself the rest of the volumes.

The building is covered by white limestone and black pre-patinated zinc at the leaning volumes.

The orientation of the day spaces is at midday and the night spaces at the orientation North and East.

The design of the building has been made following eco-design criteria. When writing the project, the environmental aspects have been evaluated and we have defined actions for the achievement of the goals, having checked their compliance afterwards.

The building conditioning is accomplished through a system of geothermal heat pump with a radiant and refreshing floor. It has mechanic ventilation with heat recovery, the gaps have solar protection with different characteristics depending on the orientation, and the materials used have sustainability certificates; most of them are recyclable.

Weave House by A-cero

The Weave House is a stunning contemporary home that is located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. The design belongs to A-cero whose amazing projects are quite popular on our site, one of their prime examples is the Sotogrande House in Cadiz, Spain.
The design is quite similar to the residence that we’re featuring today, although each of their homes are distinct in their own way. As you’ll see below, the Weave House is a bold residential project implemented in A-cero’s distinctive style, featuring black glass and white DuPont Corian as its primary materials.

Weave House by A cero on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain

This house has been designed the distinctive style of the studio managed by Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares architects, according to the design the evolution recent years with more sinuous and organic lines, this single-family house project is located in an exclusive residential area of the Spanish coast.

The property of 1000 sqm is divided into three floors. The basement with the garage, service areas and facilities, the ground floor with the public areas and the first floor where we find the most private rooms such as bedrooms. The whole interior also designed by A-cero has great light with large windows and is connected to the outside with different terraces and porches. There is also a pool on the walkable roof of this house.

The design proposed by A-cero gives strength and subtlety to the whole building. The four facades are different but they follow the same patterns in terms of design. The materials chosen in this case are black glass and white DuPont Corian. Both materials stand out for their high quality and durability and especially in the case of Corian, adapting perfectly to this particular design.

This is a high quality house and the design shows it perfectly by itself. In this house become important the sculptural volumes embracing the building, the construction details between Corian and glass planes and the great plasticity of the facades.

The large plot of this project is located in an elevated position and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The detailed landscaping was also designed by A-cero in relation with the project.
